Migration Legal Service update

Migration Legal Service update

Townsville Community Legal Service has provided free migration advice and assistance for two decades, and for many years it has been the only free non-volunteer migration legal service outside of South-East Queensland.

Over the last two years, we’ve reduced the scope of our free migration service. The Migration Legal Service now exclusively focuses on helping victims of family and domestic violence access the Migration Act family violence provisions, or advising on alternative options. As a result of this change of focus, we’ve renamed this vital service the Family Violence Migration Legal Service.

We will continue to provide this service to visa holders in Townsville, Cairns, Mackay, Mt Isa and surrounding regions. We welcome referrals from support services and community agencies. There’s no change to existing referral protocols – just call 07 4721 5511 to arrange an appointment.

Even if it looks like a victim of family and domestic violence doesn’t hold an eligible visa class under Migration Act family violence provisions, we can still advise on alternative options.

Other migration issues can be referred to the Refugee and Immigration Legal Service in Brisbane (07 3846 9300) or the Mackay Regional Community Legal Centre if the client lives in the Mackay area (07 4753 1211).
